What's Expected of Parents
The support of parents is essential to the success of the team. Obviously, parents need to support their racers' desire to ski, encourage their progress, and work with them to cover the costs and responsibilities of participation. In addition, parents help run the organization. The team is a non-profit ski club run entirely by a group of parent volunteers in coordination with the team's coaches. The team receives no direct support from the public school system although high school Booster's clubs often provide financial support and the schools let us hold meetings and other events there. In general, parents have several types of opportunities to support the team:
Help transport skiers to the race on race days through the team's carpool system.
Volunteer on the mountain during races.
Participate in the annual Ski Swap fundraiser. A significant number of people are needed to set up for and run the Swap and racers and parents are generally asked to work one or more 3-hour shifts during the Swap. A variety of tasks are available and the Swap coordinators work with volunteers to assign them jobs that best fit their interests and skills.
Become part of the team's parent leadership team which organizes team communications, finances and other activities.
